Ears Pierced

Today Kat came to me and told me that she thought she was ready to have her ears pierced. Gulp. She had been asking me for months when she could wear earrings like Mommy and I explained to her that when she was a big enough girl to understand that it was going to hurt for a little while and that we would have to take special care of her ears, and she still wanted to have it done, we would do it. Many, many times I would explain this to her and she would say, "yeah, I'm not really ready for that I think. Maybe when I'm a bigger kid". I would agree. Well today she changed her mind. She told me, "I know it's going to hurt, but then it will heal and it won't hurt anymore. I want to wear earrings". So, I took her. She was very brave and only cried a little. She breaks my heart!

Nipple, whipple

Kat is getting better and better with words and definitions. We have been talking about rhymes and such, and the other day when talking about rhyming, she said, "nipple, whipple. Those words rhyme, Mommy!" Yes, they do rhyme Kat!

While Bear was sleeping and Kat was playing, I went into the kitchen and wanted a snack. I decided to just eat a spoonful of ice cream and she caught me. I asked her if she wanted some, and she said, "let me smell what it tastes like". So I let her smell it and she said, "hmm, smells like coffee!" It was mocha latte flavor! She cracks me up!

attitude to SPARE

I have missed so many things that I really wanted to write down. I’m going to be all over the place and probably out of order, but I need to write this stuff down before I forget. I’ve been emailing myself little notes to help me remember. One of my New Year resolutions has to be to keep up on this journaling. I don’t want to forget anything about these babies.

Kat has attitude to spare these days. She is sweet though and has gotten a bit better with her listening.

Every morning when I get Bear up, she wants to hold him right away. She’ll hold him and say, “Hi little buddy, did you have good dreams? Did you? Sissy has you now…” She is so gentle and sweet. When he fusses, she says, “hmm, I wonder what he’s trying to tell us?”

The other day I told her to go potty. She said she didn’t have to. I told her that we were going to try anyhow since we needed to go out for a little while. She sat down and went pee pee and said, “hmm, I didn’t THINK I had to go…”

The other day she went into the bathroom to get something and I followed her In there to blow my nose. She turned to me and said, “um, am I being followed?”

She was going to the bathroom and I went in there. She said, “right now I going poo poo. I don’t ask you to come in here right now. Right now Dora is watching me. Just me and Dora please Mommy”. (Her Dora doll was sitting on the side of the bath tub ‘watching’ her go poo)

I was emailing pictures of Kat and she came in, angry that she didn’t get to use the computer right then. She said, “No Mommy! I want to play that!” Since she yelled, it made Bear cry a little. She immediately knelt down beside him and said, “Oh No Baby Bear! Sissy not mad at you! But I SO MAD at Mommy right now… I wasn’t yelling at you little man I was just mad because Mommy IS NOT listening to me right now. And I’m SO MAD at Mommy right now. But you don’t need to cry wittle man, I’m going to talk to Mommy about this as SOON as I turn around.” (turns around) “Now Mommy, I’m SO MAD at you right now because you not letting me play my game!…” Oh, she’s a spunky monkey, for sure!

Here’s another conversation we recently had:
ME: Kat, it’s time to brush your teeth..
K: but, I’m thirsty
ME: Well, you can have some water after you brush your teeth
K: ACTUALLY, I don’t want any water because I have lip gloss and it might wash off.
Also,
K: If you don’t’ get out of here, I’m going to be MAD!
ME: Kat, it’s not nice to ask Mommy to leave like that
K: I don’t want you to leave, I miss my mommy!
ME: Well then why did you ask me to get out?
K: Because everyone needs to get out sometimes

I was dancing to some of her kids music and she wasn’t in the mood, so she said, “Well, this wittle kid don’t want to dance!”

She hates the white strings inside an orange. She says it’s coconuts and they just aren’t good for her.

Kat knows upper and lower case letters now and is starting to read! She can spell Kat, Mommy, Daddy, Cole, Cat and Dora.

She just came into the office right now wearing her fancy dress up hat singing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” She loves to sing and knows several songs from start to finish.

more catch up

Oh Kat baby. I haven’t written in a while so this might be all over the place. First of all, before Bear was born I said something about what she could teach him and she said, “yeah, but… Baby Bear is still in your tummy. He hasn’t come out yet!” It was surprising to me that she grasped what was going on as well as she did.

Jump ahead to Bear’s birth. She stayed with Grampa Marasco and he brought her to the hospital so that she could come in and see him first after he was born. When Hubby went out to get her to come meet Bear, she asked her new little friend in the waiting room to “come see my new baby!” She was so proud of him. Right away she wanted to kiss him and hold him and give him his bottle.

When we brought Bear home I expected that to change. I figured the novelty would ware off and she would get sick of him. So far, 4 weeks later, that hasn’t happened. She still asks all the time if she can kiss him and hold him and hold his hand. When he cries, and he does, A LOT, she says, “oh Bear! You’re fussin again!” She runs to grab his pacifier or she’ll sit and sing to him until I can get to him.

She shows her jealousy in other ways though. When I sit down to nurse him, suddenly she’ll need juice or she has to potty, or … anything really. Or when I’m holding him she’ll say, “mommy, can you hold Baby Bear and me?” I of course tell her yes every time and she’ll sit there for a moment and then want down.

She can play her computer games now like a pro. She loves this certain drawing program and she likes to print the pictures she draws. Well the printer ran out of paper and she knew what to do… she grabbed a piece of paper that was close by and fed it to the printer. I’ve never done this in front of her, she figured it out where the paper went based on watching her pictures print over and over. Smart girl.

The problem is though, I’ve told her never to touch the printer and that she needs to ask me before she prints anything. She isn’t listening at all lately. I’ll tell her to do something or not to and the first thing I hear is, “but…” She argues with everything and then gives me a super sweet smile like I’m not going to notice. Or I’ll say, “no baby, don’t do that” and she’ll say, “oh, but it’s so much fun!” or, “Just for a second Mommy”.

The other day in the car she asked Hubby and I not to talk and said, “everyone needs to ses down ses down” (settle down) Or, like just right now, she wants to play with her doctor’s kit that I just put away. I told her, “no no Kat, I just cleaned that up.” She says, “but I just want to take care of you.” She knows how to make me feel bad for saying no. It’s worked one too many times. The stuff in the kitchen is off limits, she knows this. Yet time after time she’ll go and try to play with it. I’ll tell her no and she’ll say, “but I’m making you a cake”. I’m SO not buying that crap anymore! It’s sweet but it doesn’t warrant not listening.

Today she wanted to go out and play. I told her if she had good quiet time I would take her outside after. She didn’t have good quiet time… she called me time after time for stupid requests and I told her that if she called me one more time, she wouldn’t be allowed to go out and play today. Meanwhile I heard her shaking her bed rail loudly, trying to get my attention. I chose to ignore that, but then she called me again. I went in there and calmly told her that per my warning, she would not be going outside to play. She of course had a melt down. I told her furthermore that I didn’t appreciate her shaking her bed rail and making that noise. She cried and walked around the apartment for several minutes. I couldn’t understand all of what she said, but some of it was, “I just want to do whatever I want, and you don’t let me”. Also, “what was I shaking Mommy?” I showed her the bed rail and she said, “yeah, I was. You see, I was asleep and I started dreaming and I woke up shaking my bed rail.” Um, have I ever heard a bigger crock of shit? I can’t believe what she comes up with.

The other day one of her books was ripped and I asked her about it and told her that it is naughty to rip her books. She said, “I think someone else did that. Yeah, my friend Elvie did that. You see, I met her at Disneyland and we went on the dragon ride together and she comes to my house sometimes. Yeah, and she’s the one who ripped my book. That was naughty, wasn’t it Mommy?” I swear I’m too young to be old.

On a positive note, when Bear cries or something, she’ll say “my baby is crying!” She says that she’s his little mommy and I’m his big mommy. She loves him. Every morning she comes into our room and says, “where’s the baby Mommy?” She’s a sweet angel when she’s not being a shit.

catching up

I found scratched on a piece of paper some things I wanted to write down about Kat. These are from a month or maybe a little more than that ago. The first story was when we were driving home from Matt’s house and Kat thinks the road he lives on is “spooky”. There is a slight wooded area off to the side and Kat said, “robbers live in trees. Hey! Robbers are like tree frogs! They BOTH live in trees!” It turns out in Shrek, one of the characters says that there are robbers in the trees. She learned about tree frogs living in trees from Diego. She put the two together on her own!

That same night, she said, “you need an umbrella for the rain. Rain comes from clouds. Sometimes it gets cold and I need a blanket!” I love listening to her thought process.

She calls little babies, “Sweet little pie!” now. She’s very gentle and sweet with them.

She looked up into the sky and noted, “the moon is out. That means I have to go to bed”. She also noted that the moon was trying to follow us as we drove home.

When Kat is being challenged or wants to sassy talk us, she’ll say, “you know what I mean!” Oh, she’s so sassy!

She found a worry stone that someone gave to me and I explained to her what it was. Several days later, she said “I worried”. I asked, “why are you worried honey?” She said, “Oh, never mind, I not worried anymore!” And pulled out the stone and started rubbing it.

Kat can play computer games now pretty accurately. She can move the mouse exactly where she wants it to go and she plays Dora the Explorer games that seem complicated for a 2 year old to me, but she loves them. She told me, “I can do it myself, no sweat!” I said, ‘honey, where did you learn ‘no sweat’”. She said, “from my friend Bro, him taught me that words!”

Baby Shower

We had our baby shower last Saturday for Baby Bear and Kat was such a good girl. We had brought presents for her so she didn’t feel left out, but she was happy to run around and play with the other kids. She was excited when we would open things and say they were for baby. She would say things like, “OH! Him gonna be so happy!” She is a very non selfish 2 year old.

At the shower one of the presents she got was a “My Little Pony” that takes it’s bottle making a sucking noise, then says “I love you Mommy!” Well we were driving back from the store and from the back seat we hear, “oh! There’s a button in her mouth! Yeah! That’s how she works! You just push the button! That’s what makes her talk! See? I just pushing the button with my finger and it works. This is how she works!” Hubby and I just sat there amazed that my 2 year old princess could figure out that the darn toy talks due to a button, not magic.

Yesterday the phone rang and I answered it and spoke quickly to whomever it was and then hung up. Kat started waving her hands around and saying, “the PHONE has been RINGING all DAY LONG! First it was my grampa then mine other grampa and then Auntie DD and people JUST KEEP CALLING HERE!” No one had really called that day but still, an interesting observation.

Just now I hadn’t heard from Kat in a while so I yelled, “Kat, what are you doing baby?” She yelled back, “I just running around in circles!”

Lately she has been more naughty than normal and I wonder if I’m not paying enough attention to her since I’m so tired. I would tell her to do something and she’ll glare at me and shake her head ’no’. Or, she’ll just say, “no”. She is throwing herself off of my lap, which makes me want to rage. Today has been better, but I’m pushing through the tired to pay lots of attention to her. I hope she adjusts well to not being the center of everything anymore.

She is excited about Bear. She’ll bring me books and tell me she wants to read it to Bear. Today we went to the baby store to purchase some things we still needed, and she wanted to wrap one of the presents for him. I let her, and after we wrapped it, she said, “Oh! We made a beautiful present for Baby Bear! Him just gonna love this present!” So freaking cute. People in the store were staring at her totally amazed at how smart/cute she is.

getting a little jealous

Well as we get closer to Baby Bear’s birth and talk more and more about baby, Kat is pretending to be a baby herself. She comes to me and says, “mommy, mommy, change my diaper!” I’ll tell her, “you don’t wear diapers!” She’ll say, “no, but Baby Cole is gonna go poo poos in his pants!” We are trying to reassure her that being a big kid is the best. Hopefully this tactic will work.

Kat is often saying to us now, “Are you KIDDING me?” or “You know what I mean!” Chad thinks the 2nd one is her version of “F-U!” She definitely says it when she’s being sassy because she’s been told no. Another common one for her is “but I want to” after she’s been told no. She argues with pretty much everything we say. She argues with logic though which adds an interesting spin.

Lately I’ve been having a lot of headaches and back aches. Kat will say, “where does it hurt Mommy? I’ll kiss it for you”. Today she got her shot out of her Dr’s kit and gave me a bunch of shots in my leg and then kissed it. She told me that my legs wouldn’t be bothering me any more. She’s the sweetest thing.

She shares extremely well for a 2 year old, and she knows it. So today I told her that she shared very nicely and she said, “yeah, Bro doesn’t really share with me that well.” Bro is very well behaved but she seems to think that he doesn’t share as good as she does.

Today her grampa was here and she went and got her bike and said, “hey everyone, you wanna see my cool new bike?” She’s so proud of it, though she still doesn’t peddle very well. Bless her heart, she’s very smart in her brain but not as advanced physically as she could be.

Every night when we go to bed, we read Kat books and then sing her some songs. Before we sing the last song which is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, we ask her what her favorite part of the day was. She used to always say getting her kids vanilla milk from starbucks was her favorite part of the day, regardless of whether we had gone that day or not. She insisted that was it. Then it evolved into “I don’t know”. So we started telling her what all we did and asking her to choose her favorite. We went through a short phase where her favorite part of the day was just something recent, like we had a party for her over the weekend and that was still her favorite part of the day on Monday. Just Tuesday of this week she’s starting choosing a part of the day all on her own without us telling her what happened. On Tuesday, her favorite part of the day was “having dinner with Auntie DD”. Today her favorite part was “playing ball with Grampa and Mommy”. I’m so proud of her she’s getting a grasp on time.

Kat is very needy lately and I think it might be in response to everyone talking about Bear all the time. She is always saying, “mommy I want you!” And she just wants me to hold her. Of course, I’m fine with this. I just hope it doesn’t come from insecurity. I want her to be confident even if there is a new person joining the family.
